Samuel Jean Pozzi (3 October 1846 – 13 June 1918) was a French surgeon and gynecologist. He was also interested in anthropology and neurology. He is remembered today for John Singer Sargent's portrait of him.

After studying medicine in Paris, Pozzi volunteered to be a medic during the Franco-Prussian War. He later specialized in gynecological and abdominal surgery, establishing the first Chair of Gynecology in Paris in 1884, and performing the first gastroenterostomy in France. Pozzi was elected to the French Academy of Medicine in 1896, and co-founded the Revue de gynécologie et de chirurgie abdominale in 1897.

His personal life was marked by a tumultuous marriage, multiple affairs, and cultural interests, including friendships with notable figures such as Sarah Bernhardt and Marcel Proust. In the political arena, Pozzi served as a senator for his hometown, Bergerac, and supported Alfred Dreyfus during his trial. He died in 1918, when a disgruntled patient fatally shot him.

Sarah Bernhardt (French: [saʁa bɛʁnɑʁt]; born Henriette-Rosine Bernard; 22 October 1844 – 26 March 1923) was a French stage actress who starred in some of the most popular French plays of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas fils, Ruy Blas by Victor Hugo, Fédora and La Tosca by Victorien Sardou, and L'Aiglon by Edmond Rostand. She played female and male roles, including Shakespeare's Hamlet. Rostand called her "the queen of the pose and the princess of the gesture", and Hugo praised her "golden voice". She made several theatrical tours worldwide and was one of the early prominent actresses to make sound recordings and act in motion pictures.

She is also linked with the success of artist Alphonse Mucha, whose work she helped to publicize. Mucha became one of the more sought-after artists of this period for his Art Nouveau style.

Gabrielle Charlotte Réjane (egentligen Reju), född den 6 juni 1856 i Paris, död den 14 juni 1920 i Paris, var en fransk skådespelerska.

Réjane utbildades vid Conservatoire de Paris, och utmärkte sig från 1875 på Vaudevilleteatern. Hon gick till Ambiguteatern 1882, och uppträdde under de följande tio åren som gäst på olika scener. 1892 ingick hon äktenskap med Grand théâtres föreståndare Paul Porel, och följde honom tillbaka till Vaudevilleteatern, där hon sedan verkade en längre tid. Hon fick från 1890-talet internationell framgång med sina själfulla och sensuella kvinnoroller, gav 1895 gästspel i Nordamerika och företog 1897 en europeisk turné. Hennes äktenskap med Porel upplöstes 1903. 1906 grundade Réjane sin Théâtre Réjane i Paris. Hon lämnade scenen till följd av hjärtproblem i mars 1919, och samma år blev Théâtre Réjane Théâtre de Paris. 1920 fick hon Hederslegionen.
